A family farm in operation for over two hundred years.

The early years…

Jeremiah Mead married Lucy Brate in November 1833 and began running what was the Brate Farm. The farm produced fruit, hay and grain crops. Jeremiah and Lucy were responsible for building many of the farm structures including the brick farmhouse.

In 1891, their son Baltice Brate Mead, married to Hannah Johnson, completed an expansion of the main barn, nearly tripling the length and doubling the height. He continued the fruit and crop farm selling the produce in Albany as well as New York City.

In the 1950s, Albert H Mead carried on with the farming operation including converting to a dairy farm operation, adding a bottling plant and home delivery routes. In the early 1970s, the dairy business was sold and the farm converted to beef cows as well as hay and grain production under John H. Mead.

The current years…

In 2016, we began a large restoration of our main barn. In 2022, we hosted our daughter’s wedding and so began another phase in our farming operations. It is now available beginning 2024!

Beginning in the summer of 2023, we will feature “Dining on the Farm” featuring our meat and produce as well as products from other local farms. We continue the family farming way of life today producing blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, heirloom tomatoes, cut flowers and other produce. We raise and sell Angus beef cows and Border Leicester cross sheep. Our produce, as well as our beef is available at our farm wagon or contact us at meadfamfarm@gmail.com
